| A sample, high impact team building event |
| A Journey
with a clear purpose: To enable your teams to develop their teamworking and have a great time doing it. |
| |
| The Teams |
This course has been specifically designed for everyday business teams. We recognise that teams are made up of people with very different interests and levels of fitness. Under our theme of ‘'challenge by choice'' everybody has opportunities to tackle activities that appeal to themselves whilst contributing fully towards the team goal. |
| |
Aims for the Active elements of the programme. |
| |
| • |
It should be challenging and fun. |
| • |
It should consist of imaginative options and variety and be different from the usual Outdoor Management Development programmes. |
| • |
The teams need to be ultimately successful. |
| • |
The exercises must not be dependent on physical fitness. |
| • |
It will include inputs on teamwork and leadership theory in response to the identified needs of each team. |
| • |
The programmes will conclude with each delegate identifying key actions that they can implement in their area of the business. |

| DAY ONE |
| • |
Arrive for tea/coffee at 11.00 am. |
| • |

|
The first session will include a practical exercise as an introduction to action centred learning. A short discussion enables the team to consider how we use this medium to develop a clear understanding of teamwork issues.
After lunch we enter a session that will be individually designed according to the identified needs of each team. This will be based around a series of team problem solving exercises that get longer and more complex as the session progresses. Each exercise is followed by a short review to explore what can we learn from these experiences? Appropriate models are used to support the learning and the exercises are selected to highlight
specific issues. The session will conclude with each team designing their ‘'template for team success'' which will be individual to each team.

After dinner we have an opportunity to explore Team Roles. Each delegate completes a self perception questionnaire which will identify their team role preference. The results can then be shared within the team which has two clear benefits: |
| 1. |
A greater understanding of the strengths of individuals within the team. |
| 2. |
A more general exploration of the different team roles and their application, leading to a better understanding of team dynamics. |
|
The formal part of the programme concludes at around 9pm |
| DAY TWO |
The day commences with the briefing for the “Peregrinations” exercise. The word “Peregrinations” means ‘'purposeful journey''.
This can be a collaborate project :- A major incident happened last night somewhere in Mid Wales. Your task, should you choose to accept it, ………………'
Or a competitive exercise:- You are a commercial organisation operating in a competitive market place. Can you be the team with the highest bank balance by 13.00Hrs tomorrow?
As information from the scenario becomes available the team members get involved in an increasingly difficult logistical problem. They have many tasks to perform and activities to experience.
People undertake a range of outdoor activities to gather information and to earn money to enable the next set of decisions to be made. Team members choose what they do and where they go, based on personal choice, physical capability
and needs of the exercise.

| DAY THREE |
| |
Once the journey is completed, the exercise concludes with an appropriate finale. We then return to the Lodge for showers and refreshments.
The final session helps participants translate the learning from the course into learning that is relevant to their workplace.
The aim of this phase is open discussion leading to the development of: |
| • |
A team player profile that captures
the key characteristics that the team expects each member to
work towards. |
| • |
A template detailing how the team wishes to operate in the future. |
| • |
Specific action points that relate to how each delegate applies these principles in managing their part of the business. |
